Alleluhia! The Manchester Evening News has acknowledged the existence of the label and Harp and a Monkey.

A Macclesfield venue will play host this week to one of the north-west’s most hotly tipped alternative-folk acts. The Snowgoose on Sunderland Street has secured a performance by acclaimed electro-folk-storytellers Harp and a Monkey. The trio are signed to the award-winning Mancunian record label Folkpolice and have earned rave reviews for both their debut album and their beguiling live performances. Staples of the summer festival circuit, Radio 2 DJ Steve Lamacq is among the band’s growing number of flag-wavers, with the likes of Manchester Music claiming that their debut recording (which appeared at the end of last year) was “beautiful stuff… the best folk/low key album of the year”. Visitors to The Snowgoose on Thursday evening (starting 8pm) can expect some memorable melodic storytelling backed by a mash-up of electronica, harp, banjo, violin, glockenspiel and more. In the words of the band’s PR machine, “It’s left-field but very accessible”.
